Locator link expiration based on Geofence or Notification execution

Тема: Locator link expiration based on Geofence or Notification execution

Similar to Uber, Lyft, or other location based service apps, we would like the locator link to expire based on entering or exiting a location/geofence.

Instead of limiting the Locator link to expire based on preset times, we would like to have the option for the link to expire based on other parameters, e.g. Notifications parameters, primarily geofence.

Use case:
For many service based industries, it would be helpful to use the Locator feature to show where the vehicle is going, however the time it takes for the vehicle to arrive to a location can vary greatly based on traffic or other conditions. It's possible the vehicle could arrive at a location long before or long after the time expiration. In many cases, a customer is simply waiting for the vehicle to arrive at a certain location, therefore they should only be able to see the vehicle, up until when it has arrived at the selected location, no time after, e.g. going to another customer's house.

Another option would be to have Link expiration done, added as a Notification action, measure to be taken after the notification has triggered.
e.g. if vehicle enters geofence > Expire all Locator links for this vehicle

I don't think this has been part of a direct loss of a sale, but we have been asked about this multiple times before, and could definitely help contribute to future sales.

Edit: grammar

Hello,

Could you please clarify why is it so important to delete locator link exactly after delivery/arriving in your case? What problems can 10-15 extra minutes of locator link life cause?
Also could you give more examples of situations in which the deletion of the locator link should be done immediately after leaving the geofence and it is crucial to do this not after 10 minutes of locator  expiration? That would help us a lot.

Thank you in advance.

I'm not sure about fleettracker3 case, but the reason among our customers:

A link is shared with first customer and after delivery the link still works, then vehicle is traveling to second customer and first customer still can track vehicle. This is not acceptable for our market as in most cases they want to hide customers details, delivery points etc. They just want to give access to their customer to track the vehicle from warehouse (or previous delivery point, or when vehicle reaches to a geofence near the delivery point) to delivery point and after that the link shouldn't work.

Correct, this is the same reason for us. We deal with many different industries, this problem has been brought to our attention for use cases for:
- Service industries, they want to hide customer information from other customers. Customers do not want other people to see their home locations, primarily for deliveries and home services, e.g. security/alarm install/services.
- Schools and governments. School buses, very often are used in multiple routes and trips, although routes are generally uniform and tightly scheduled, occasionally traffic or other outside factors can cause delays. If a schedule is thrown off, parents may not want other sources to see where there children are, e.g. if a bus is used for a scheduled field trip or sporting event.

Hi GT!

Seems this idea has enough support from community side, what's your plan? Any chance for implementing it?

Re: Locator link expiration based on Geofence or Notification execution

Hi,

To share a link to locator created by notification with customer you have to create notification per customer, after that you have to create another notification for this clients geofence to delete the locator link after leaving it. One notification with group of geofences will not work because there is no way to prevent leaving from intersecting geofences and accidently delete working locator.

So anyway, even with this function there will be needed a lot of manual work for each client. Just deleting the locator by driver himself from his smartphone will be even faster than creating notification for each client that will delete a link once.
