Video monitoring in Wialon

Тема: Video monitoring in Wialon

Dear community,

Last year we integrated video monitoring in Wialon, which supports SmartWitness KP1. Workflow with this device assumes sending a request for a specific footage and saving it to our FTP server.

Throughout the year we collected a number of requests regarding video monitoring. Hence today we work in that direction. For the next step, we are planning to

i) integrate devices of:

  • Everfocus
  • Servision
  • Howen
  • Streamax

(Please, leave your request below if you don't see the manufacturer of your interest)

Supporting the above-mentioned devices will change our video monitoring workflow.
We request video footage directly from the devices and do not keep it on our FTP server.

ii) provide you a convenient tool for video monitoring in Wialon Hosting.

We've prepared two versions of the video monitoring prototype:

  • Version 1 - Minimap window gets a special video monitoring view:

    Video monitoring in Wialon

  • Version 2 - Separate tab in Wialon Hosting:

    Video monitoring in Wialon

Please vote for one of the options and leave us your feedback.

Your answers will help us to determine the best way to integrate video monitoring in Wialon.
We would appreciate any details from your side. In the case of sensitive information, you may contact me in PM.

Video monitoring in Wialon

Re: Video monitoring in Wialon

i think minimap would be better: in real live you watch real time video only if you want to check a special driver / case etc.
No need to watch "many many multiple streams and superduper organize them"...

(just my opinion).

Many thanks to all respondents.

I've PMed most of you with the feature-based survey, that will help us to define what features should be in video-monitoring. If you haven't received it or missed in your inbox please follow the link.

Thank you for your effort to make Wialon better.

Re: Video monitoring in Wialon

Minimap is definitely the way to go.

As you are integrating more video input devices, it would be a good idea to do the following as well:

1. Enhance Wiatag so that it can send video on demand. This will allow any ruggedized Android  device with front/back cameras to be used as a Dashcam

2. Enhance Wialon IPS protocol to include video input/on demand video,  or alternately publish a generic Video Input protocol for Wialon.  This will allow Android/iOS apps that have features such as messaging and other features (not found in Wiatag) to send video to Wialon as well.

Hello Pavel Bushuyeu,

Do you have a list of the device model of each manufacturer that you are integrating?

Re: Video monitoring in Wialon

If Wiatag app is also being modified to have video, here are a list of feature suggestions:

Driver initiated Live Video with option for front/back cameras (with
automatic turn off after 30, 60 , 90 etc. secs ??? to avoid excessive data
charge)

Dispatcher initiated Live Video with option for front/back camera (with
automatic turn off after 30, 60 , 90 etc. secs ??? to avoid excessive data
charge)

A Job that can be set up to request video every X minutes (nice to have)

Ability to forward/email a video clip (nice to have)

Ability to send video (post?) to some external (AWS) archival system –
nice to have

Video monitoring in Wialon

Re: Video monitoring in Wialon

Pavel there are couple of considerations that need to be looked at when working with video apart from the management of the increase in the data stream.

1. There should be automated uploads of short (30second) video's based on a trigger that would be available in Wialon. The trigger could be user definable. Standard setting would be say 20sec before the event and 10 sec post the event. The event would also trigger the minimap to pop up. The playback of this video clip should also show all of the captured parameters from the device such as speed, accelerometer etc

2. Analysis of video's should not be done in Wialon but in a dedicated application to reduce the server load. However the triggering of the extraction to a local server or a cloud store could be done via a job or notification in Wialon. User needs to make sure that the extracted video is in a format they can directly play, ie AVI, MP4 etc unless they have a player that can work with the video clip directly.

Hi JohnG,

Thank you for well-thought comment!

Many of the thoughts are already on our roadmap for this feature. Please keep in mind that we will publish MVP first. Additional functionality will appear in the upcoming versions.

We connected with DV03 manufacturers, but unsuccessful. They couldn't provide us with any documentation to support their video.

Anyway, thanks for your proposal. We will try to contact with them once more.

Video monitoring in Wialon

Re: Video monitoring in Wialon

A thorough analysis of user requests, several months of development and testing and we are ready to implement almost any project in the area of video monitoring thanks to the new module in Wialon beta-version.

While working with the map you can quickly switch to video mode. After its activation, you access a work area where video windows are located. Every window presents a separate video player with the options to select a unit and a camera.

After clicking “Video” button in the monitoring panel a mini window pop-ups featuring the first camera stated in Unit Properties.

The size, number, type of displayed cameras along with grid size can be changed in settings available right in the video-mode window.

Nowadays video surveillance in GPS tracking is on the rise which means the functionality of the new module will soon be extended. We want Gurtam analysts and developers to work closely with our community and look forward to your ideas and suggestions about how to advance the module. Together we’ll create the solution subject to your needs.

Re: Video monitoring in Wialon

While Video monitoring is great, having implemented hundreds of KP1 from Smart Witness and looking forward to implementing the other models like Howen, I propose that you integrate still image cameras as well such as MVC300 from Teltonika. Some customers are happy to work with still images only.

Thanks

Video monitoring in Wialon

Re: Video monitoring in Wialon

Hi, I have a question,
Let us say the client allready has a Calamp 2630 tracking unit in the vehicle. Now he wants to add a MDVR to the same vehicle.. Let us just assume its a Streamax X3  H0402.
Now he has 2 devices in one vehicle. Will this mean he can integrate the 2 devices under a single vehicle unit or does he now have to have 2 seperate units and 2 icons for the same vehicle under the monitor tab in Wialon. It would be great to only have one vehicle unit under monitoring with ability to see GPS position as well as camera view together.
