Тема: Optimal config for tracking vehicles in the city?

I know that certain devices allow users to specify the exact parameters for when to send the device's coordinates to the server when moving.
In order to save on bandwidth, yet still provide accurate tracking for my clients, I'm looking to optimize my config for tracking vehicles in the city.

At the moment I'm using Teltonika's devices (FM1120/FMA120).

Here's what I use:

  • Min. Period: 240 seconds - Meaning after 240 seconds it creates a record
  • Min. Distance: 300 meters - Meaning after 300 meters it creates a record
  • Min. Angle: 10 degrees - Meaning if the device turns 10 degrees, it will create a new record
  • Min. Saved Records: 5 records - Meaning as soon as there are 5 records saved, the records will be sent
  • Send Period: 8 seconds - Meaning after 8 seconds it checks if there's a record, and if there's 1 or more it will send this

Let me know what you guys use, I'm curious.

Re: Optimal config for tracking vehicles in the city?

Really? I might just increase the angle as well to bring down bandwidth a bit. At the moment some clients' trucks use over 10-15MB per month with this setup.

I'll try your settings.

Hi there

We use the following in most cases except special projects:

Time interval: 6 hours
Distance: 1 KM
Angle: 15 Degrees
+ Ignition event
