Binding truck with a trailer

Тема: Binding truck with a trailer

Hi dear Gurtam partenrs,

First of all, let me wish you to all of you a great year full of success and full of new features in Wialon smile

This morning, to start the new year with a unanswered enquiry, a client ask me to track their trailers.
OK, this is not a problem... The real question came later...

the problem is to bind the truck to the trailer when the trailer is equiped by a tracking and temperature system (we are working with Ruptela's ECO4)  but the truck is not equiped (actually, they are equiped with Dynafleet system).

The question is how to bind a truck with a device installed in the trailer ?

Do we need to install a second device at the rear of the truck which will be able to recognize automatically the trailer equiped with the first device ?

Thank you for your answers if you got some wink

Re: Binding truck with a trailer

The easy and cheap way: have an IBUTON somewhere on the trailer and when you connect trailer with truck connect also the 1wire cables.
But this needs mechanical skills, more complicated cables etc.

you can also use active rfid tags as "ibuttons". Than you need a tracker with active RFID receiver and a active rfid tag.

2nd gps tracker in trailer is expensive! (not only for licence fees but also for traffic, HW etc)

I would always use active RFID tags and Ibutton protocoll.

Re: Binding truck with a trailer

Thank You Mister Wolf and best wishes to you and yours smile

It's the reverse mode asked by my customer : the trailers will be probably equiped with an ECO4 from Ruptela if I can win the deal.

They want to know which truck is running with the trailer and/but the trucks are not equiped by us, but with Dynafleet from Volvo.

It's a very big deal to win if we can find a positive and reliable answer.

I will continue to search !

Re: Binding truck with a trailer

Let me know if you find a solution as we have a similar problem. Truck and Trailer have GPS devices and i want to be able to pair them when they are connected. At the moment this is not possible from what I can see.

At first, device must have such functionaly: exchange each other by its serial numbers.

Re: Binding truck with a trailer

Hi Road-Link,

Dynafleet does have an API, but it's only available against a fee.

You could trigger an event, from the Ruptela Devices (IN1, IN2; ...) If The EBS-Modul gets powered (as soon as someone plugs in the ABS-Cable this module will have power.

Then query the Dynafleet API with the GPS-Coordinates from your Ruptela Devices. This can be done relative straightforward with the notification feature of Wialon.

This would however mean that you need some external program which receives the Notification, connects to the Dynafleet API, and connects to the Wialon API to register the Trailer with a "trailer" Since you do not have the Tractors in Wialon. Or The dynafleet API lets you register a trailer.

Definitly a thing which would work, depends on the pricing and Availability of the Dynafleet API.

so far,
axpdreamer

P.s.: Does your Ruptela TCO implementation work as expected?

Hi axpdreamer

Thank you for your answer and good idea about Dynafleet API.

Anyway, we didn't find any solutions with Ruptela.

At the moment, we are making a test in real conditions with a FM1125 from Teltonika and a RFID box and tags build by a french company..

Even if this solution need an hour minimum to install, the result seems to be OK.

I have also tried the new device from Cellocator (Nano 20) but the device and its peripherals are not strong enough to support the transport conditions.

Have a nice day

Re: Binding truck with a trailer

Hello Roadlink...

You can use Ruptela installed in the trailer and install a "temperature sensor as ID" in each truck (or viceversa), and it will work.
If you are interested send me your email in a PM so I can send you the Ruptela´s manual for that.

Regards,

Jary Hernandez

The use of a temperature sensor as the ID is an interesting idea as each sensor has a unique id.
