Testing: "Passengers" module (School Buses)

Re: Testing: "Passengers" module (School Buses)

Hi Alek We have been asked by a number of customers (bus operators) about being able to identify empty seats on a bus. So I was hoping we could some how link a ticket to a seat and a ticket to a passenger. So when the passenger is detected as on the bus the seat would turn red.

Ideally we would have individual sensors on the seats and these would trigger the sensors that would be seen in Sensolator.

Re: Testing: "Passengers" module (School Buses)

JohnG, that's an interesting idea but I cannot see how it is really connected with school bus solution (or it's just a separate idea?).
The point is that when a school bus leaves its station, the driver already knows which addresses he should visit and what number of students is expected on the bus in the end...

P.S. Notification "Passenger Alarm" is designed to notify the school when a passenger is left on the bus. It triggers when specified timeout of being on board is exceeded.

Hi Alek

I am looking at non school bus scenarios for long trip buses not school buses.

Re: Testing: "Passengers" module (School Buses)

JohnG, you mean public transport?
If so, this particular module (Passengers) is not for this. Here you track individual passengers, their movements.
To track buses on routes, please check our other module — Routes.

Re: Testing: "Passengers" module (School Buses)

Hi Alek,

Should not matter if it is public or private transport as passenger tracking is the same. I am wanting to track passengers but track them to a route and to a seat allocation on the route.

Re: Testing: "Passengers" module (School Buses)

JohnG, I believe it's not the same. In School Bus solution you track individual people (personally, knowing even their names). In case of public transport, you would probably track just the number of passengers on the bus — it's not so personal.

Re: Testing: "Passengers" module (School Buses)

We need to be able to create "Passenger´s groups"... So we can assign all the passengers per each bus...

Then we will also need to be able to create a report "Group of Passengers" and get group bindings as actually we can get only binding report per passenger and a normal "yellow bus" carries 50-60 passengers, it will be easier to have the binding report for the entire bus (group).

Re: Testing: "Passengers" module (School Buses)

jhdeguate, what is exactly the point of groups of passengers? They cannot be assigned onto one bus because there's no such function to assign passengers manually. The whole point of this new module is to be able to automatically detect passengers on buses.

The issue with reports is clear. I agree.

Re: Testing: "Passengers" module (School Buses)

Thanks Alex... the points are:

1) If we are thinking on "school buses" we usually will now wich passengers are "assigned" in each bus, so if we have (for example) a college with 10 buses and 50 passengers per bus, it will be easier for us  to create 10 groups (every bus is a group), and put their passengers on each specific group.  And as all the bindings are done automatically, depending on bus routing performing, and as Wialon is showing with vehicle´s icon next to each passenger wich vehicle is attached to each passenger (I love this, is very helpfull), it will be easier to know wich passengers are not in the bus or waiting to be picked up, if we have the chance to get "passenger´s grouped".  In the other hand, if we don´t have "passenger´s grouped" we will have those 500 passengers in only ONE huge list and we won´t know wich passenger belongs to wich bus.

2) Having passengers "grouped" per bus, will be easier to get the specific BUS (group of passengers), binding report.

Having "passenger groups" will make us (talking on my case and hope there are several other distributors agree with me), the control A LOT easier,

...

Hope I have explained myself and you are 100% agree with me (this time) Alek...

Re: Testing: "Passengers" module (School Buses)

Module works good so far ,

It would be nice if we can generate a report for a " Passenger Group" .
And include  the "traveled mileage " for each passenger.

Hope you will consider these for future release .

Thanks

Testing: "Passengers" module (School Buses)

Re: Testing: "Passengers" module (School Buses)

I was trying to configure "Passenger Alarm" in notification, I noticed the timeout shows in "min". What I understand is if I update 60min, the Alarm will trigger after 60 min from the clock IN time. suppose the bus pickup the first student at 6:30am, the alarm will trigger at 7:30am. When the bus pickup the last student say, at 7:00am, the alarm will trigger at 8:00am. It will be a tedious task to select the Timeout for each students. There are many reasons the bus can arrive late to school due to traffic, breakdown etc. In this case the alarm will trigger and cause unnecessary panic. The alarm should trigger after the set timeout interval when the bus reach the school premises or based on the school starting time.
Example (case1) : The bus reach the school at 8:00am and the alarm will trigger at 9:00am if any students are left inside and timeout set at 60min.
Example (case2) : The school will start at 8:15am and the alarm timeout set at 60min should be activated at 8:15am and trigger at 9:15am if any student is left inside.
A second timeout should be included after the school closing time to ensure no students are left inside the bus, for the management to ensure safety at both directions. After dropping the students, the driver can take the bus back to school yard, drop in workshop for maintenance jobs, go for a lunch, take rest at his residence and drop back the bus back to school during evening time, leave the bus near his residence for the next days trip etc. etc.
Need to to close all loopholes to ensure safety by releasing this module.
More suggestions in the coming days...........

Re: Testing: "Passengers" module (School Buses)

orosgroup, I really don't think that way to school may take more than an hour. May it? If it does, choose 100 minutes to trigger. Easy!

However, your idea is clear, we'll think about it in future.

Testing: "Passengers" module (School Buses)

Re: Testing: "Passengers" module (School Buses)

Under passenger properties can you add 2 fields as Address and Security
Address is where we can capture the drop off point of the said child and once system knows all the children in the bus and the address it must do an automated routing of all drop off points, and should also allow use of navigation devices to give the driver the shortest routes or just to show him the route. so if child B is not in the bus that day the route is not assigned and driver does not have to worry about the route system will calculate.
Security am thinking of how we can capture a pin code, card or finger of the guardian who will collect the child from the bus and have proof that the child was collected into safe hands. This option is most ideal for pre-school kids

Testing: "Passengers" module (School Buses)

Re: Testing: "Passengers" module (School Buses)

Regy, thank you for you feedback.

In case of address, it will work only for routes back home and will not work for routes to deliver children to school, right? And what kind of device are you intended to use for navigation and how will this device retrieve addresses from students exactly?

Security is a tricky point here, too. Maybe pin code or another rfid card is OK but fingerprints... I believe this type of data is not so easy to store. Maybe, just a photograph of a guardian will do?

Re: Testing: "Passengers" module (School Buses)

Hi Alek, thanks for the response

Routes yes will only work one way when delivering the kids home that should be fine, for navigation using Galileo and Garmin device should show the route to the driver and can the system then automatically workout a route
on security i guess a pin code or card will be fine then cause with these a driver can confirm if an identified pin code or card has been used. On the issue of photo how does it work maybe it will be good too.

Testing: "Passengers" module (School Buses)

Re: Testing: "Passengers" module (School Buses)

It's kind of really simple with photos. You can even now add a guardian's photo to student's properties — as a custom field with URL leading to this photo.
However, the point here is that the driver should have access to this info anyway (a tablet device maybe?). And when a child checks out, how would the driver know who exactly is checking out, because rfid reader transmits info to the tracker and not to the driver...

Testing: "Passengers" module (School Buses)

Re: Testing: "Passengers" module (School Buses)

The idea of having passengers to have their addresses captured in configuration then leading to creating a route for the same delivery of boarded passengers. If this is done the use of a navigation device which shows the route can also display who is dropping at which point that way it also help the driver to know that at every drop off the particular children have dropped off. It will solve the issue of some children that will sleep in the bus and wont disembark, cause the driver will know how many are dropping off with their names. Now on the issue of showing a photo of the guardian who is supposed to collect the child i guess the same display of the navigation can be used every drop off shows the child and the guardian but  how can we verify this in the system, this way we are left to rely on the driver. I would say if this feature can see the light of the day a photo might be weak feature which is not verified by the system, a pin or card will be ideal in my view or maybe if a pin or card is used then it shows the photo of the guardian collecting the child to the driver on the navigation device if you want to take it further, my thoughts
